Ok so you mostly watch hero heavy fantasy got it. I have seen an episode of Musketeers but not much else. I am not a fan of the new sherlock show but I do like the books.

If you don't mind "Teen" catagories (Harry Potter is also considered teen) I would suggest the Fablenhaven series by Brandon Mull. It is a about fairies and other magically creatures on reservations around the world and people who can see them to protect them. If you want something more Sci Fi I suggest The Enders Game series by Orsen Scott Card about a world of people whom are limited in who many children they can have but the chosen one is born to save our planet from an alien race. If you want something a little more romancy drug store kinda I would suggest the Three Sisters Island Triology by Nora Roberts about you guessed it lol women in our time with our knowledge that are real life witches. These are all books I like and have read more than once. The Fablenhaven series is dear to me as my father picked that out for me and the Inkheart series.

I love Ruby and Sapphire's love/friendship/relationship/whatevership. They are good characters and make a fantastic character c: As for non-gems main characters, Greg is awesome! I loved that snippet where he first meets Rose Quartz and then tries to find her and he meets Amethyst, and she's like O.O your hair is so long....and I assume she made her hair long the next time she had to remake her form. It's implied anyway! As for side characters, I really love Sadie and Lars. Sadie is just so cute and I am rooting for Lars to get the stick out of his butt. Also the mailman! ...Jamie? I had to look it up.

I use them a lot on fairy and merfolk HA's as if you mix the colors they actually work as mixed. If you put the green on top of the purple it makes a deeper green etc.

FitzChivalry Farseer - Robin Hobb's Farseer, Tawny Man & Fitz and the Fool series.

So Fitz (and the Fool) are my favourite characters ever. In anything. The only others who come close are Crowley and Aziraphale (good omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett). Fitz is just the most wonderful character, who you follow through almost every aspect of his life from childhood to when he is an old man (though one who looks and acts younger than he is thanks to some weird magic :P ). I've included his beloved companion, Nighteyes in the HA, since they come as a pair (though I've shown him in a spirit form...because...well...yeah...spoiler!!! he is no more). I've not included a picture of him, because there aren't really any that aren't fan images. so my HA of him, is basically just one imagining of him. Sadly i wasnt able to do an accurate depiction of how he is in my mind, and couldn't find a warrior tail wig to go with him. But i did my best. I don't know what it is about Fitz that i love so much. Part of it could be how real he feels, more than any other character i've read. He's just fantastic, but also flawed. I wish I could give more information...but Fitz is one of those characters that, if you haven't read his story, and loved him for it, you really cant understand. So i'll love him enough for everyone. Because if i could be transported to his world, I'd be his in a second. Or the fools...or both XD
